New Alter Bridge Album: 8 Incredible Things To Look Forward To

3. More Progressive & Experimental Song Structures

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFSP_n3llTU In the behind the scenes video that came with Fortress's 'How to Play' tutorial DVD (something we'd love more of for past albums, if anyone's listening), Myles and Mark both mentioned they wanted to move away as much as possible from what was expected of them - to actively remove the 'need' to deliver a radio-rock single, and just see what feels best. That resulted in the likes of Cry of Achilles' many time changes and awesome flamenco-sounding intro, Waters Rising seeing Mark take lead vocals for a full song, Farther Than the Sun's core riff delving into djent territory, Cry a River's staccato vocals stand out as an album highlight - and Peace is Broken's thrash-riff taking your head off as soon as it came thundering in. Truly, it's their most experimental and impressive work yet, showcasing a band completely confident in each other's abilities whilst collectively pushing the envelope on how elastic they can be within certain genre boundaries. The best part, is they still more than delivered on epic solos, huge vocal moments and the 'radio rock'-friendly accessibility that makes them approachable from all angles anyway - so let's see what their genius minds have cooked up in the time between albums this time.
