Alter Bridge At The Royal Albert Hall: 7 Ups & 0 Downs

3. Up - The Sound

Alter Bridge Royal Albert Hall
Austin Hargrave

The recent live album released by Alter Bridge has received some criticism for the sound; Mark Tremonti's guitar is buried underneath everything else and the solos that he pours so much into are difficult to hear. This was a fear for some going into this show.

However, whatever problems had existed before were not present during this performance at all. Mark's guitar was perfectly balanced with Myles', and no matter who the focus was supposed to be on you could hear all the separate pieces. This goes for Brian and Scott in the rhythm section also.

Obviously the challenge for this gig was balancing the band with the orchestra. Since this was the first time the band had played a show of this nature, there was a real risk of having the orchestra drowned under the sound of the guitars, or vice versa.

This was not the case. While Alter Bridge were still the stars of the show, the orchestra were loud enough to be heard and compliment the music of the band without overpowering them. When the DVD/CD of this gig is released, you won't need to listen to any other live album, this will trump them all.
