Alter Bridge: The Last Hero - 13 Tracks Reviewed & Ranked

8. My Champion

Second single from the album and the only one aside from Crows on a Wire that stands out specifically thanks to its opening riff. My Champion is by far the most upbeat of all thirteen on offer, bringing to mind the likes of Fortress bonus track, Never Say Die in its overall feel.

A love letter to old school Alter Bridge and the general positivity that surrounded One Day Remains, lyrically this is pure soul-stirring material. Myles always knows exactly how to sing from the heart too, and it's what makes him the finest vocalist on the planet.

In anyone else's hands, going so near such 'sugary' material may be off-putting, but in the hands of a genuine veteran of the industry, someone who writes all his lyrics with real world experience backing them up and who knows there's a diehard fanbase listening every time, it comes together perfectly.

Listen out for: Myles absolutely singing his heart out in the background from 2:45 onwards, right before the solo kicks in.
