2. Evil Twin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwir-pg7WiA Find it: 'Suck it and See' (2011) Christ, the Monkeys know how to handle a good riff when given the opportunity. One of the punchiest songs from the Suck It And See sessions, 'Evil Twin' is ushered in on an exemplary Helders drum clatter, before Cook and Turner crash into view with a major hook: a souped-up grind which is as earwormy as it is brusque. O'Malley shoulders the verse melody for the most part, reducing the guitars to interlopers which puncture and electrify the song at various pressure points, zapping in from the ether like bolts of lightning. It's all crowned with a short, sharp solo which crackles with desert grit; the perfect counterweight to the sublime prettiness of 'Suck it and See' itself. 'Evil Twin' is one of the band's more blatantly "rocky" tracks, and still every second still brims with a poppy sensibility: an aesthetic the quartet would use as a template for the forthcoming AM.
