Arctic Monkeys: 10 Essential B-Sides Every Fan Must Hear

3. The Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyBrLYN2Yok Find it: 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair' (2011) The era of Suck It And See ushered in many new things for Sheffield's finest, among them summer anthems, jangly guitars, and tours of the stadium circuit (goodbye local dives, hello O2 Arena). Another unfamiliar fixture was the emphasis on bikes. From Helders' leather trousers to Turner's ever-present shades, and the Californian heat to the 'You & I' video, the Monkeys were starting to hit the road, and their sound began to take on a crunch befitting this gang mentality. 'The Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap' is the perfect complement to this phase; a cruelly-overlooked gem which growls from the off, with crunchy, buzzing guitars chugging away beneath some teasing repartee ("If you were heat-seeking / She was hard to ignore"). It doesn't explode like some of their more recent material, but the menace gilding 'The Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap' is incredibly enjoyable, and beds in well with repeat listens.
