Arctic Monkeys: 10 Underrated B-Sides (That Deserved To Be Album Tracks)
5. The Death Ramps (Teddy Picker, 2007)
Bit of a weird one, this.
Actually the debut song from Arctic Monkeys' alter ego Death Ramps, this eponymous track was released on a limited-run Death Ramps vinyl EP as well as being included as part of the Teddy Picker single.
Death Ramps have made their appearance elsewhere across Arctic Monkeys' discography (Nettles, also found on Teddy Picker, is another Death Ramps song), but we've chosen this outing for its sheer weirdness.
The three and a half minute instrumental track takes its listeners on a journey which flirts between different tempos and styles, almost erupting into a hard rock song at its close.
The Death Ramps may have been a perfect interlude for a record as bonkers as Favourite Worst Nightmare, but Death Ramps tracks (Little Illusion Machine, by Miles Kane and the Death Ramps, a Suck It And See B-side which is also worth checking out) contain such a unique and raw energy that they deserve to be on an album of their own.
A whole record like this if you're listening, boys.
