The Beatles: Their Top 40 Tracks

4. She Loves You

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpvP4eHV4eA Writer: Lennon-McCartney Album: Single 'She Loves You' is the song that made The Beatles the stand out British band. That famous line 'she loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah!' is one of the biggest in 20th Century music, and propelled the group to new levels of fame, and rightly so. The song is one big infectious riff, with catchy, easy to listen to lyrics, and a good beat. It's easy to see why this song gained so much popularity, and without it, we may never have had a lot of the songs on this list.

3. I Am The Walrus

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU4uaKgCQ9A Writer: Lennon-McCartney (Lennon) Album: Single Lennon reportedly wrote this song after receiving a letter from his old school, saying they were analysing Beatles lyrics. In response, Lennon wrote the most confusing lyrics he could think of. It's not just the lyrics that are weird though. Chopped up samples of everything from crazed laughter to dramatic play readings are slipped into this song, giving it fantastic psychedelic depth. It's fantastic nonsense, it makes no sense, yet is still is such a great song. It's songs like 'I Am The Walrus' which make The Beatles stand out as a band that only come about once in a generation.

2. A Day In The Life

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wYw9NVdH1E Writer: Lennon-McCartney Album: 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' 'A Day In The Life' is the final track on 'Sgt. Pepper's...'. And what a closer! Comprising of two very distinct vocal sections, 'A Day In The Life' is like life at the time rolled into one five a half minute song. There's something strangely ominous about the upbeat lyrics mixed with the forty piece orchestra, all gives the feeling of the music building up to something more, notably with the crescendo from the orchestra and final piano chord. 'A Day In The Life' is an avant garde masterpiece, but loses none of that classic Beatles musicianship in its experimentalism.
