Beck: Ranking His Albums From Worst To Best
3. The Information
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTWJ1_nF_kU2006's The Information finds Beck at his most experimental with an instrument list ranging from mobile phones to GameBoys to everything in between, creating an unpredictable thrill ride of cosmic proportions. Unfortunately the album was banned from making the Official UK Album Charts due to it's packaging (it came with stickers to design you're own front cover) but it was also a harbinger of the overall state of the record also, one of torn up sounds and textures, making it feel completely alien to anything else released up until that point.
The album feels somewhat musically grounded at the beginning like the warm guitar struts of 'Think I'm in Love' or the gospel tinged 'Strange Apparition' before slowly taking off for the stars with songs like the broken junkyard '1000BPM' or the mind altering 'Motorcade', ending up in a barren cacophony of disparate sounds and movements.
It reaches several peaks but the almost childlike wonderment of 'New Round' or the spontaneous busking of 'Nausea' demonstrate the intense attention to detail pouring out of every second of this moody modern classic.
Probably his most daring and most rewarding work to date, the album showcases that musical boundaries for Beck are non-existent.
Hightlights: Cellphone's Dead, Nausea, New Round, Motorcade
