DOOM: Every Album Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFdxjsBMmUQVaudeville Villain may be the most bizarre and ahead-of-its-time album in DOOM's discography. Assuming another new identity and handing the production duties over to a variety of underground producers such as RJD2, Heat Sensor, King Honey, and Max Bill, Viktor Vaughn takes the listener through a series of much darker stories than the rest of DOOM's output.
The beats are some of the most varied, eccentric instrumentals of his albums to date. With the glitchy "Raedawn," the droning "A Dead Mouse," and the smooth "Let Me Watch" all co-existing as highlights in an album full of high points.
Vaudeville Villain is the foil to the cheeriness of Mm..Food. Meant for introspection as opposed to having a good time, it sort of creates this narrative that wonders how DOOM would be living had he never recovered from his brother's death and the disbandment of KMD.
The album does not end with any sort of figurative reward for its main character either. Viktor Vaughn does not get the victory lap ending of Madvillainy nor does he get to revel in the basic pleasures of masturbation like in the end of Mm..Food. He is left punished for his reprehensible actions, abandoned by everyone and toiling away without reward in random open mic nights.
