Eminem: 10 Most Overrated Songs
5. Venom
It may seem unfair to hold a soundtrack song to the same standards as Eminem's own personal catalogue of work, but in a world where we've had Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On, Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You and even the eponymous Eminem's Oscar-winning "Lose Yourself", Venom is simply just a load of overblown noise with Eminem occasionally chiming in to utter a few passive connotations.
Just like Fall, Venom released on Eminem's less than stellar Kamikaze album and ironically, mimicking the motion picture it starred in, it was another over-hyped hit that didn't deserve the praise it received. The song itself, while not exactly alleged to be one of Eminem's most masterful works, proves almost immediately that it will not be, as the chorus or hook - if you can call it either of those - just sounds like Eminem making a lot of strange noises while infrequently saying Venom in a whiny voice.
The spotlighted component called into question is yet again the lyrics, some of the lyrics in his other songs have been loosely attached to what precedes or proceeds them, but in Venom, it's written like an editor had just undergone laser eye surgery with varying results of success. L-l-lick a salad bowl and Edgar Allan Poe, just simply do not go together, no no no.
