Eminem: EVERY Album Ranked Worst To Best
9. Encore
Encore might just be the most divisive of Slim Shady's albums. Either loved or reviled, the album is an undeniable mess, with some of the rapper's most thoughtful and heartbreaking songs on the one hand and some of his most poorly crafted and bizarre on the other.
Luckily, there is more bad than good with the record, though its inconsistency does let it down slightly on re-listens. Like Toy Soldiers, for example, is a subtle and intelligent song wherein the veteran rapper takes a step back and mulls over his various feuds and all he's lost to the rap world. Mosh, too, still stands as one of Eminem's best protest songs, a scathing and inspiring attack on the Bush administration.
The height of the album comes with Mockingbird, a tear-inducing song written for his daughter Hallie, where the rapper lays it all on the table and never misses an opportunity to shock and move his listeners. But outside of these sparks of brilliance, there are songs like Ass Like That and Just Lose It, which, whilst fun and silly, don't mesh with the rest of the album and leave it feeling unbalanced and jarring.
Best songs: Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh, Mockingbird
