Standout Lyrical Attack: 'Until I see dumb sh*t start happening / dumber than Vanilla Ice trying to rap again' taken from the D12 track 'Purple Pills'. Vanilla Ice was a joke of a rapper, but not only that, he was a joke in a genre dominated by a different race. Vanilla Ice's mainstream failure in the hip-hop industry resulted in people not taking white people rapping very seriously, therefore his embarrassing career effected Eminem a lot. If you were a record label that wanted to maintain credibility you would not touch a white rapper; and of course that was every record label back in the 90's. Eminem naturally hated Vanilla Ice for having such a negative impact on a career he was so desperately chasing. He had to work twice as hard to be taken seriously and would be called 'Vanilla Ice' in almost every rap battle he participated in. Due to pent up anger, Eminem has regularly taken shots at Ice on records. Finally, Dr. Dre would put his own career on the line and sign Eminem, which of course was far from the stupid move that everybody feared and the rest is history. Eminem has had a completely different effect on the genre of hip-hop and has paved the way for the likes of Asher Roth and Maklemore who have had their own commercial success.
