This particular war of words began due to a break-up, not that the relationship itself was the issue, Mr Mathers took offence when Mariah Carey denied publicly that the romance ever happened. The pair would continuously make small digs at each other over the best part of a decade which included Eminem collecting his Breakthrough Male accolade at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, his acceptance speech including "I can't believe I beat Mariah for Glitter." However, the beef didn't really pick up pace until Eminem would later reference Mariah's drink problem on his track 'Bagpipes From Baghdad' in 2009. That track was the straw that broke the camel's back. Mariah Carey responded with the radio-friendly record 'Obsessed', which featured the pop singer dressed up in attire Eminem would wear, following Mariah around and trying to take pictures of her. Eminem then hit back with the track 'The Warning', which in short said that she was a liar for denying they were together, he still had photos and voicemails from her and that if she continues to suggest he's a fantasist, he will release everything. Mariah never responded.
