Every Bob Dylan Album Ranked Worst To Best

11. Desire (1976)

Desire is another storybook album from Bob Dylan, with each song telling an elaborate tale of real-life historical figures and lost souls cast adrift within 70s America.

The record opens with Hurricane, a raging re-telling of the wrongful conviction and subsequent acquittal of boxer Rubin Carter, and also features Joey - a song which focusses on infamous gangster Joey Gallo - and the challenging epic Isis, which tells the story of a married man on a mysterious quest for wealth.

It's a strange and hypnotising affair, the kind of album best listened to with your eyes closed and you headphones on full volume, and shows Dylan on top form.
