Although intentionally a promotional single in the spirit of
his own album (Because the Internet), Telegraph Ave. (“Oakland” by Lloyd)
sheds its layers to become something imperviously delicate in its execution,
incorporating the same style of melodic R&B symphonies symmetrical to that of the surrounding
music that found itself flooding the waves at the time.
Despite being only seven years old the song feels more like a throwback rather than something that retains staying power, almost conforming to the regulatory high standards set by the artist, but lacking any sort of significant impact or message, essentially rendering it to be a song with rhyme, but not much reason.
The creativity is applied more to the accompanying video, one that plays around with the concept of diegesis, using the radio in the music video as a catalyst to lyrically dispatch this operationally adept R&B number.
