Every Childish Gambino Single Ranked Worst To Best

13. Fire Fly

A vibrant song which makes it hard to not protrude your neck as your head involuntarily sways back and forth to the upbeat rhythm found in the track. With nods to race, racism and the bias some people hold in reference to prejudice against the aforementioned cultures. Although this song strikes a really fun, energetic and jubilant tone the subject matter is immediately overturned and blindsided by the bouncy instruments in the foreground. The lyrics, vocals and subject matter all seem to take a backseat in this production, feeling lazy in execution, but prominently strange, as Glover has normally made it a duty, rather than an afterthought to be confrontational in the most direct way.

A good song to catch on shuffle every once in a while, but not exactly an example of Glover’s most beloved work.
