Every Green Day Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

1. American Idiot - American Idiot

What else could it have possibly been?

Everybody knows this song from the moment those muted opening chords strike up, plunging fans back into a world where pop punk ruled the world and red ties on black shirts were all the rage.

The first song from the acclaimed album of the same name, American Idiot details the band's issues with modern life, hitting on subjects like homophobia, media influence, and the general paranoid state of a post-9/11 nation.

A simple, yet iconic song, American Idiot helped bring punk music into the 21st Century and catapulted the band to international star status, a pinnacle from which they have yet to come down.

There's a reason this track crops up during any retrospective of rock music during the noughties, as it is simply one of the biggest songs of the era, and one of the best album openers of any genre of all time.
