Every Green Day Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

10. At The Library - 39/Smooth

The band's other independent release (and the first full album in their overall discography) was 1990's 39/Smooth, their only record to feature drummer John Kiffmeyer before he was replaced by Tré Cool.

Libraries aren't the first environment that comes to mind when one thinks of punk music, but Green Day made one the focal point of this album's opener. At the Library is about Billie Joe trying and failing to pluck up the courage to ask out a girl he sees across the room, presumably whilst she's swotting up on her maths homework.

39/Smooth's lo-fi recording quality will appeal to fans of underground music and there's some complexity to the sound, but once again, there isn't a great deal to get too distracted by.

At the Library will always be historic for its place in Green Day's history, but fans would do well to simply borrow this track and return it well ahead of time.
