Every Green Day Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Burnout - Dookie

The Green Day that fans know and love today would not have happened without the 1994 album Dookie, the band's first on a major label and the most famous rock record of all time to be named after a synonym for poo.

This breakthrough LP features songs like Welcome to Paradise, When I Come Around, and Basket Case, but, unfortunately, none of those are the opener. Instead, that duty fell at the feet of Burnout, a song about the main character's general apathy towards life and everything in it.

A nice subject matter, but the word "apathetic" could also be used to describe this song in general.

With only a simple punky rhythm to work with and lyrics that are okay, but not great, Burnout is a thoroughly average track on an otherwise excellent collection. Thankfully the rest of Dookie is what it is, as it did not put its best foot forward.
