Every Green Day Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

8. Armatage Shanks - Insomniac

Thanks to Dookie, Green Day had their first hit album under their belts, and were ready to take on the world. So, naturally, they named the first song on their next album after a company that makes toilets.

Granted the spelling is a little different, but still.

Armatage Shanks serves as the opener on Insomniac, which came out in 1995, and offers Armstrong's musings on feeling lost within oneself. It comes with several nice turns of phrases, including "I must insist on being the pessimist/I'm a loner in a catastrophic mind" and "I perfect the science of the idiot".

These statements would have resonated well with the disenfranchised youth of the '90s, which might explain why Insomniac was a success too. Green Day were still finding their feet musically at this point, trapped in the ways of unmelodic punk, but they were starting to make progress in other areas.
