Every Iron Maiden Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

13. Aces High - Powerslave

Iron Maiden love a song about World War II, as demonstrated by Aces High, which is about a Spitfire pilot.

Taken from the band's fourth album, Powerslave, Aces High is the band's interpretation of what it would have been like to take part in the Battle of Britain, dogfighting in the skies over Blighty to fend off the Nazi menace.

If the song is anything to go by, then the Battle of Britain was pretty boring.

Aces of High has the energy of a Maiden track, sure, but it's also thoroughly uninspired. The guitar and drum patterns get repetitive very quickly and the song lacks that magic tough that elevates so many of its peers.

This might be a popular Maiden tune, but popular doesn't always mean good.
