Every Iron Maiden Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

10. Where Eagles Dare - Piece Of Mind

Taking its cue from the 1968 war movie of the same name, Where Eagles Dare was the first thing Maiden fans would have heard on the follow-up to Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind.

Another cherished album, Piece of Mind contains tracks like Flight of Icarus and The Trooper, either of which would have been preferable to this song as an opener.

Where Eagles Dare has the same gallopy drum style to it that was used to great effect in The Trooper, but it's just missing that certain something that makes it an all-timer. Maybe it's Bruce's extra-nasaly vocals? Couldn't he have used some spray before recording?

Who knows, but this is a track that would have performed much better had it not been leading the initial charge.
