Every Papa Roach Album Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Getting Away With Murder
Music, as always, moved on from sudden trends and left most of the artists who defined the era behind. This was the case for the nu metal scene moving into 2003 and 2004, a reality which had crushing effects on many of the bands who'd been household rock names a year prior. A year later, many of them would no longer be together at all and Papa Roach had to think fast to avoid a similar fate.
Papa Roach recorded what would become the lead single for this album, presenting a rejuvenated rock sound which separated them from their native yet stagnating scene. But, they initially didn’t get the reception they hoped for. Even the band's record label, Geffen, said that Papa Roach were a 'dead band' after the collapse of the nu metal scene. However, as time went by the hostile response subsided and the band enjoyed immense success thanks to this great album.
'Getting Away With Murder' became the second of two Papa Roach albums to achieve platinum certification in the United States, making their second most success physical sales album ever. It also received silver certification in the UK, with 'Crooked Teeth' being the only record of theirs to match this feat since. Key songs include the title track, 'Scars', 'Take Me' and the dangerously underrated 'Tyranny of Normality'.
