Every Pearl Jam Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

4. Brain Of J. - Yield

Kicking off the band's 1998 offering, Yield, is an eclectic hard rocker named Brain of J.

In this instance, "J" is short for former President of the United States John F. Kennedy, as the first line of the song is "Who's got the brain of JFK?"

A perfectly normal question.

It's this song's weirdness that is its greatest strength, as it grabs audience attention from the get-go with this bizarre query. This matches the full-on nature of the music, as the band were clearly told to just play their instruments as hard and as fast as possible to get this album off to a flying start.

It's another short song, coming in at a smidge under three minutes, but it uses all of that time to great effect and stands out as one of the most unique and memorable tracks in the band's entire catalogue.

Also, if anyone is still looking for the brain, check down the back of the sofa. That's usually where things end up.
