Every Queen Album Opening Song Ranked From Worst To Best

9. Staying Power - Hot Space

Hot Space from 1982 was a much-maligned Queen album, as long-time fans disapproved of the band's movement towards a more disco-oriented sound.

However, those people were wrong, as there are some bangers on here, including Las Palabras de Amor, Under Pressure, and the opening song, Staying Power.

An unabashed ode to attempting to pull on the dancefloor, Mercury gives it all the gusto over the top of a horn section and an utterly filthy bassline from John Deacon. Brian May and his guitar are nowhere to be seen, but that's not a bad thing in this context.

It's a little too long for its own good and ends up repeating itself towards the end, but Staying Power is so much fun that it's hard to imagine how anyone ever had a problem with it.
