Every Queen Album Ranked Worst To Best

7. A Kind Of Magic

12th studio album (1986); UK #1; US #46

Queen's second venture into film scoring at least resulted in a proper studio album.

A Kind Of Magic happened almost incidentally, as the band was working on the soundtrack for yet another fantasy film, Highlander. The record came in the wake of Queen's universally acclaimed Live Aid performance, and it also launched the band's last digression, since Freddie would be diagnosed with AIDS before their next album came out.

Like most of their '80s releases, A Kind Of Magic came with a slew of massive hits, such as the title song, Friends Will Be Friends, and the song most closely associated with Highlander, Who Wants To Live Forever. In fact, seven of the nine original tracks were released as singles!

Key Tracks: All of the above; Pain Is So Close To Pleasure; Princes Of The Universe

Fun Fact: Roger Taylor wrote One Vision in honour of Martin Luther King Jr and his mission. Freddie changed the lyrics to talk about fried chicken. A class act all the way!

Renato hails from Portugal but is obsessed with the US and UK charts, because why not? He also writes books with dozens of protagonists and will be remiss if you can't remember every single one of their names.
