Hugh Laurie And 5 Other Incredible Actor/Musicians

4. Zooey Deschanel

zooey-deschanel Ever the controversial name, some people love Zooey€™s mix of cutesy voice and pixie girl roles, whereas others hate her for exactly the same reasons. Obviously she€™s not for everyone, but there€™s just something about her that can put a smile on your face and she does this through both acting and singing, and she€™s such a big name now that there would be a noticeable gap in this list without her. First known as an actress in films such as Almost Famous, Manic, The Good Girl and Elf, Zooey€™s first lead role was in 2003€™s All The Real Girls which was critically acclaimed. However, the two things she€™s most well known for now are 2009€™s (500) Days Of Summer in which she was terrifically hipster alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and New Girl, whose second season has just finished and which is well loved (although perhaps mostly for her hilarious 3 male co-stars). Zooey has long been making her musical mark on many screen projects, too. Most prominently, she sang Christmas songs in Elf, headed the fictional band Munchausan By Proxy in Yes Man, covered Nancy Sinatra in the film and The Smiths on the soundtrack of (500) Days Of Summer, sang on 2011€™s Winnie the Pooh and now is heard most frequently singing Hey Girl for New Girl€™s opening credits. She gets around a bit! For a while she was seemingly many filmmakers€™ go-to girl for roles that needed that extra quirky musical touch- probably spurred on by the success of Elf. These screen/musical crossovers weren€™t enough for Zooey though, as in 2008 she released her first album with M. Ward in their guise She & Him. Their third has just been released (four if you included a Christmas extra) showing that this passion project is still going strong in their hearts as well as the fans€™. The music is mostly quite twee, but is perfect for a summer€™s Sunday afternoon car ride, and both vocals blend beautifully on some beautiful songs that Zooey wrote and M. Ward produced/arranged etc. (with some quirky covers thrown in too). Say what you like about Zooey Deschanel but she loves acting and music and so she€™s having her cake and eating it too.
