3. Jared Leto
Becoming famous as early as 1994 for his role in My So-Called Life, Jared Leto has since appeared in huge movies and independent projects alike, from How To Make An American Quilt and Girl, Interrupted to American Psycho and Panic Room. He has often made huge commitments to play film roles, including losing 28 pounds in order to more realistically portray his heroin-addicted character in Requiem for a Dream. However, he has also gone in the other direction and turned down roles in order to take a break and focus on his band, 30 Seconds To Mars. Leto once said that music was an inseparable part of his life, which it would have to be to justify turning down a Clint Eastwood film! Admirably, he originally refused to allow his name to be used to promote 30 Seconds To Mars, but obviously that couldnt last long once word got around. Reportedly, Letos bandmates travelled to three different continents in order to work with him on second (and biggest) album A Beautiful Lie- this shows an inspiring commitment to the cause by the group, and it is impressive how Leto managed to juggle both of these parts of his life which often went on more simultaneously than others featured on this list. The bands video for The Kill was a perfect collation of Letos interests, playing as homage to Stanley Kubricks The Shining in a plot extended further than the length of the song. Theres a scene in which Leto must confront and scream at himself, and some of the weirdest elements of the film are kept in some form, as shown by the man in the bear suit. However, this couldnt be brilliant without good music, and The Kill in particular (and then A Beautiful Lie as an album) is clever alt-rock, with some screamed vocals never sounding too forced, some subtle synth effects and personal lyrics.
