1. Mark Wahlberg
This one I just couldnt resist. As Marky Mark of Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, he released two albums in 1991-1992; though the first (Music for the People) was huge and earned two gold singles, the second (You Gotta Believe) couldnt replicate this success, probably because white guys doing this style of hip-hop is a novelty that cant be sustained. However, Marky Mark kept going for a few more years after the group disbanded, working with reggae man Prince Ital Joe, before coming to his senses and making the final step in his gradual transition to acting. The impressive thing about Mark Wahlberg is that anyone ever took him seriously after this, but he was quickly garnering positive reviews and is now one of the biggest names in Hollywood thanks to films such as Four Brothers, The Departed and The Lovely Bones; he has even been trusted with a massive Hollywood blockbuster, as hes now signed up to sign in Transformers 4. This is probably the most impressive turnaround on this list; most of the others either managed to maintain both careers alongside each other or, as in the case of Hugh Laurie, just wanted a change to pursue a passion project. Either way of being an actor/musician is just as admirable, as long as you always maintain respectability and a constant image that doesnt infer a conflicted personality. If Mark Wahlberg can bounce up from being an early 90s hip-hop artist, anyone can try this stuff out, whatever the critics say. Who else do you consider to be incredible actor/musicians?
