Iron Maiden: EVERY Album Ranked Worst To Best
11. Somewhere In Time
Iron Maiden’s sixth outing broke their impressive record of releasing five albums in consecutive years from 1980 to 1984. After a mammoth tour, the band took some time off, and Somewhere in Time didn’t come until 1986. Those extra months off did wonders for the band, as it allowed time to experiment with new instruments and equipment.
Thanks in large part to the use of guitar synthesizers, Somewhere in Time sounds completely different to anything that came before it, stepping more into the style of longer, almost prog rock tracks.
With only eight entries on this album, the majority revolve around the ideas of time and space, pushing Somewhere in Time toward the realms of a concept album. Its completely unique sound gave the world a handful of truly epic songs in The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Wasted Years, and Heaven Can Wait, though of all the tracks, only the latter two get any love from the band in terms of their set lists
This album proves that even after so many years of success, a great band can still change direction and surprise you.
