Iron Maiden: EVERY Album Ranked Worst To Best
10. Piece Of Mind
Much like Fear of the Dark, Piece of Mind has one particular track that stands above the rest. While on the whole a better outing than Maiden's ninth release, Piece of Mind was certainly helped by The Trooper, easily the best song on the album.
That's not to say the rest of the album is bad however, it just simply can't compete with the quality of the standout song. The first half boasts such Maiden classics as Where Eagles Dare, Revelations, and Flight of Icarus, though the second half doesn't quite keep up the same excellent standard.
The majority of Iron Maiden albums featured a new line up to the band, and while the greatest change came the previous year with Bruce Dickinson joining for Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind saw possibly the next most important change in the band's history. Enter Nicko McBrain on the drums.
Just like Paul Di'Anno, Clive Burr put in a great shift during his time with the band, but the gulf in quality between the two drummers can be seen as early as the intro to the first song on the album. McBrain has been behind the skins for Iron Maiden ever since, is one of the best drummers in the world, and immediately made a huge difference to the band.
