American Gangster is a very interesting one. With no new material to inspire him, Jay-Z wasnt planning on an album release in 2007. It wasnt until he saw an early cut of the feature film,
American Gangster, which made him want to make a new record. Jay went to Sean P. Diddy Combs and asked him for help. Diddy made him listen to unreleased beats that were going to be used by The Notorious B.I.G. Each song on the record tells a separate story based on the lives of Frank Lucas and his own.
American Gangster feels both nostalgic and fresh. The sound has a very seventies feel yet the lyrics are very modern. In this album, Jay-Z revisits his past, while contemplating the present.
