Katy Perry: Prism - All Tracks Reviewed & Analysed

2. Legendary Lovers

The second track of the album has a somewhat different sound to a lot of Katy's previous music. The song begins with a instrumental which wouldn't sound out of place in a Bollywood film and has a very spiritual vibe to it which can be seen through many of the lyrics where Katy makes reference to karma and nature: 'Take me down to the river/underneath the blood-orange sun/say my name like a scripture/keep my heart beating like a drum.' Although the song is creative and interesting, it is one of the weaker songs on the album. Rating: 3/5

3. Birthday

Birthday continues the same vibe that Katy used on the Teenage Dream album. It is poppy and fun and the lyrics are not dissimilar to a few of the lines in the chart hit, California Gurls: 'Pop your confetti/we can get it on/so hot and heavy/til dawn.' In spite of Katy's suggestions that this album would be dark in comparison to her previous work, it is still enjoyable to have songs which are reminiscent of her earlier songs and on this album in particular it shows that Katy has an array of styles and is not just a candy wonderland pop star. Rating: 2/5

4. Walking On Air

Katy released Walking On Air as the second promotional single from the album at the end of September. The track could be described as part of the Eurodance genre and is heavily influenced by the 90s dance era of pop music. Before the release of the track Katy gave fans the chance to decide which song should be the first promotional single from the album, allowing them to choose between Walking On Air and Dark Horse. In the end Dark Horse won and Walking On Air was released shortly afterwards. Rating: 4/5
