Kiss: 10 Awesome '90's Songs You've Never Heard

3. "Hate" - Carnival Of Souls - The Final Sessions, 1997

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT8NOU_hDJQ While the only single from the Carnival of Souls release was "Jungle", this Simmons/Kulick penned track (with an outside writer named Scott Van Zen) is perhaps the best song on the album and in fact is the collection's opener. That in itself is a rarity in that a Simmons writing credit on an album opener occurs only two other times in the entire Kiss catalogue; on 1974's debut album when he and Stanley were writing together and on 1992's Revenge. Lyrically the song is quite dark and sets the tone for the rest of the album nicely. Also worth mentioning is the fact that Simmons' vocal performance is outstanding with a snarl and attitude worthy of the title.
