Led Zeppelin: Ranking Their Studio Albums From Worst To Best
6. Led Zeppelin (1969)
The first album that not only put their foot in the door, but smashed the door into splinters - Led Zeppelin's first album is a raw, heavy set of blues-influenced songs that refuses to relent. Exhibiting the mercurial musicianship of Page ('Black Mountain Side'), Plant ('Communication Breakdown'), Jones ('Dazed and Confused') and Bonham ('Good Times Bad Times') the album was so different from anything that had been released up to that point. While the album is rooted in the blues, one can already see the roots of the versatility that would soon become the band's trademark. Whether it was the folk guitar of 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You', the frenetic guitar riffs of 'Communication Breakdown' or the majestic organ of 'Your Time Is Gonna Come', Zeppelin already had the ambition beyond being just another blues rock group. One of the greatest first albums of all time.
