Leeds Festival 2015 Review : 7 Best Performances On Sunday

4. Slaves

While Royal Blood were always going to be the most mentioned musical duo on show at Reading and Leeds - thanks in part to their frightening ability to make a lot of noise - they were actually outstripped in the intensity stakes by punk duo Slaves. They clearly know how to whip up a crowd. But then you€™d have to be with as provocative a name as the Kent duo ahem chosen. In contrast to Royal Blood€™s gloss, Slaves are more raw, sillier and more self-aware just as they€™re less self-concious. Daft lyrics and songs are par for the course - and so is banter (though it€™s never quite as funny as they seem to think - and the live setting gives them an opportunity to turn up the rawness and also the confrontation in their songs. Which is quite something when one of the most memorable (€œWhere€™s Your Car, Debbie€) is about a girl walking home after a sasquatch sighting. It€™s easy, watching them and wanting to stomp around shouting, to see why they€™re so popular.
