6. George Michael - Wham
George Michael's sexuality was a topic of discussion throughout his career and discussions came to a head in 1998 where he was caught engaging in a lewd act in a public restroom with an undercover police officer. Nowadays this would probably be seen as criminal entrapment but unfortunately sting operations targeting gay men like this one used to happen fairly regularly.
After being outed, Michael began to speak more publicly about his sexuality explaining that people would tell him he was gay before he knew it himself, and so when he felt comfortable in his sexuality he had been treated so poorly for it already that he didn't want to speak about it. Sadly, being outed meant that had to change.
Michael took this negative moment and turned it into a positive one by poking fun at the whole situation in the music video for Outside. Speaking on the incident, Michael said whilst he felt it was stupid and reckless he doesn't feel any shame and didn't think he should. He was a big philanthropist donating millions to multiple charities including LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS charities, and also used his position to speak openly on issues such as legalising same-sex marriage.
