Megadeth: Every Album Ranked From Worst To Best

11. The World Needs A Hero

Released after the extremely divisive Risk, 2001's The World Needs A Hero is a Megadeth album that seems caught in limbo. It's clear after widespread derision from fans following Risk that the band wanted to return to its roots, yet The World Needs A Hero never manages to capture just what it was about the Megadeth's earlier records that makes them so special. It's no coincidence that the album's cover features the return of Vic Rattlehead (last seen on 1990's Rust In Peace), but it's also obvious that Mustaine still has his eyes trained on the radio, which strips some of the authenticity from the record. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdFnL1b8TrE Nevertheless, The World Needs A Hero still boasts some impressive songs, with notable stand outs like the title track, Dread And The Fugitive Mind and Return To Hangar.
