Metallica: Master Of Puppets Songs Ranked

7. Damage Inc.

After making your way through arguably the best thrash record ever made, we arrive at the final track...and it's a doozy. "Damage Inc." fades in quite beautifully with a bass intro by Cliff Burton using a volume swell, which makes the bass sound like a cello.

Once the build-up ends, the band goes into one of the fastest riffs on the record. It feels as if the guitars are a stampede of wildebeests coming to tear you down Mufasa-style (too soon?.) The lyrics detail the thought process of killers who thrive on taking the lives of those around them. It all builds to the choruses as Hetfield screams "Dying time is here" before cutting it to a whisper for the title.

While the breakdown in the end section is incredible, Kirk's guitar solo does not seem to be as adventurous as some of the other album cuts. However, the draw of this song is primarily on the tempo and energy. As the band goes through one more run-through of the chorus as the title is whispered one last time, the band quickly brings the track to a screeching halt, snuffing out Master of Puppets in an instant.
