MF DOOM Albums Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Madvillainy
Madvillainy is widely regarded as one of MF DOOM's greatest projects. DOOM teamed up with the legendary producer Madlib to create the hip hop duo Madvillain.
DOOM's lyricism is at its peak on this album. Song's like Accordion and Curls have rhymes built into nearly every word and the strange, bombastic beats by Madlib compliment DOOM's style brilliantly. Not only is this album packed with jokes and wordplay, but it is also very dark at times. The song Strange Ways for example is an incredibly deep deconstruction of war profiteering and government hypocrisy rapped over a crazy, retro-sounding beat.
Madvillainy stands out from DOOM's other work because he takes a much darker and angrier tone with his lyrics. The album was originally recorded with a more excited, optimistic tone of voice but after this version was stolen and leaked to the public, DOOM decided to put the project on the shelf for a while before eventually rerecording his lines in this new style. This was seen as a good choice by most fans as the darker delivery suits Madlib's production much more.
