MF DOOM Albums Ranked From Worst To Best
1. Vaudeville Villain
Vaudeville Villain was the first album released by DOOM under his Viktor Vaughn persona. According to DOOM, Viktor, or simply V, is a younger, more spontaneous villain than the DOOM character. DOOM tried to write this album from the perspective of his younger self and it truly shows.
Viktor is cocky, rude, irresponsible, and super nerdy, constantly lacing his lyrics with sci-fi references, such as "Captain's log supplemental: the Klingons are now aboard the Enterprise rental-vessel" from The Drop, as well as many more. However, although young, V still has a deep respect for classic hip hop but sees everyone toning down and becoming commercialized and decides that hip hop needs a villain.
DOOM's lyricism is at the peak of his career on this album and the instrumentals are highly unique. They are mostly loud, intense, angry, and harken back to old superhero cartoons from the '90s, which makes sense as Viktor Vaughn is based on the Fantastic Four villain, Dr. Victor Von Doom.
The story of this album is what really makes it stand out as the best. As it plays out we get to watch the Viktor Vaughn character grow and become a true villain, eventually even meeting with his idol, the MF DOOM character at the conclusion.
