Mötley Crüe: Every Album Ranked Worst To Best

5. Motley Crue

Motley were not really in the best of spirits once coming off of their highest peak yet. Even though the overarching success of Dr. Feelgood was still fresh in their minds, various creative differences led to Vince Neil quitting the band shortly after the tour wrapped up. There was pretty much no way these guys could have recovered from something this drastic...and yet the self-titled record actually gave it a fair shot.

Hooking up with vocalist John Corabi, this album is far heavier than many would have typically expected from a Motley release, with Tommy Lee getting some of the most thunderous drum sounds of his career. Considering that Neil left right as grunge was starting to become the norm, songs like Hooligan's Holiday could still hold their own when put up against the Pearl Jams of the world.

However, there was pretty much no way this lineup was going to last. After the album failed to really register with the public, Corabi was booted from the group again, which eventually led to Vince being brought back just a few years later for Generation Swine. It's almost a shame that we never got to see what happened with Corabi out front. If he had stayed on for just a little bit longer, we may have eventually seen a more metallic Motley later down the line.
