4. Wal-Mart And K Mart Threatened To Ban In Utero

Both Wal-Mart and K Mart threatened to ban the record before it hit the floor, from fear it would offend customers. Eventually, they accepted a modified version of In Utero where Rape Me was re-titled "Waif Me", and the back cover was modified to get rid of the fetuses.

Both Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic were eager to have the record released with both stores, and willingly complied to make the necessary changes.

Cobain reportedly told manger Danny Goldberg he wanted kids like his, who didn’t have access to record stores and could only go to big department stores, to be able to buy the record.
