It seems a shame really; while the album doesnt contain the chunky rhythms of her previous release, Is This Desire? gives us a disturbing and experimental look into Harveys music. Basslines are distorted beyond belief, lyrics are almost spoken, and ghostly synths echo through the halls of each song. Elsewhere, songs like Catherine and Electric Light are softer, slower numbers, often with only one or two instruments involved whilst Harveys voice carries the songs forward tenderly. On the whole, Is This Desire? is by no means a bad album; it shows just how different Harvey can be, still producing deep, meaningful songs.
