PJ Harvey - Ranking Her Albums From Worst To Best

5. Rid Of Me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHI0Pnac91U If people had thought Dry was raw and provocative, they were in for a shock when Rid of Me was released. Inspired by one of her favourite albums, Surfa Rosa by Pixies, Harvey brought in Steve Albini to produce the album. Harvey€™s screams and growls are prominent in this album, not only from her voice, but from guitars, bass, and even a string section, each contributing a unique noise to the production . Like Pixies, Rid of Me ranges from deafening to quiet as a mouse in a split-second, notably in €˜Legs€™, the title track, and even her cover of Bob Dylan€™s €˜Highway 61 Revisited€™ in which Harvey gives a crazed, lo-fi twist to. All this makes Rid of Me Harvey€™s grittiest release to date.
