Ramones: 15 Best Songs (That Weren't From The Original Lineup)
8. I Just Want To Have Something To Do
Album: Road to Ruin (1978)
Lineup: Joey, Johnny, Marky, Dee Dee
In many ways, I Just Want to Have Something to Do is the opposite of I Wanna Be Sedated (if the titles alone weren't a dead giveaway.)
That being said, the songs are basically two sides of the same catchy coin, with I Wanna Be Sedated representing what appears to be a manic episode, whereas I Just Want to Have Something to Do portrays the narrator in a more depressive state. However, both songs give off a very similar energy.
The disparity and similarity between the two tracks is captured wonderfully by the band who do a great job at bringing the subtle shift, particularly through Joey Ramone's nuanced vocal style.
I Just Want to Have Something to Do is also a rather great Ramones track in its own right. The instrumental works, the lyrics are memorable, and the chorus featuring Joey bellowing "tonight" is more than enough to get your head bobbing.
