The Baby Shark song exploded into the mainstream thanks to this video produced by Pinkfong, an education brand belonging to the South Korean media startup SmartStudy. It is the most viewed educational video of all time. Thanks to a 2013 alteration to the Billboard 100 that allowed it to acknowledge the view numbers of YouTube videos, Baby Shark broke in at number 32 early last year.
The song is performed by the then 10 years old Korean-American singer Hope Segoine. The music video features 2 child actors along with the family of sharks the lyrics centre on and a school of fish being hunted.
Its wild popularity has spawned a a major online dance fad known as the Baby Shark Challenge. K-pop groups such as Red Velvet and Blackpink have been cited as popularising Baby Shark even further thanks to their promotion of the song and dance on TV shows and during their concerts.
An announcement last year revealed that Baby Shark would be adapted into a series by Nickelodeon as a part of their Nick Jr. channel. Earlier this year, Pinkfong enjoyed a 1 day rulership of thr Underwater Adventures marathon on Nick Jr. to further promote the imminent arrival of the new adaptation.
