Puerto Rican artists Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee teamed up for a music video that took YouTube by storm in January 2017. 97 days after its release, the video had already reached 1 billions, the second quickest to do so. It later became the speediest to acquire 2 billion views and the first video in the history of the site to make it to 4, 5 and 6 billion views, respectively. International interest in Latin pop music has been markedly higher in the years since the release of Despacito with many music journalists dubbing the increased sales the Despacito Effect.
Directed by Carlos Pérez, the music video depicts Fonsi and Yankee performing the song over several parties. Along with the numerous dancers and bomba drum players in the video, its cast features the 2006 Miss Universe winner, Zuleyka Rivera. Filmed in Puerto Rico, shoots took place in the La Perla neighbourhood and the La Factoría bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
As well as being the most viewed video on YouTube, Despacito enjoys the distinction of being the most liked with more than 36 million likes courtesy of its viewers.
