Ranking The '27 Club' Based On Musical Talent

9. Brian Jones

Brian Jones was a very talented musician, and could play a whole host of musical instruments, more so in fact than any other member of his fellow band, The Rolling Stones. Unfortunately for Jones however, it was soon established that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards would be the band members the media donated their interest to; particularly after the pair became a solid songwriting team. It is not uncommon in music for certain members of a band to become more popular amongst the industry and their fans; The Beatles, Guns N Roses, Oasis etc. Sadly, this realisation hit Jones very personally, particularly as he was the original bandleader. In the early days Brian Jones did everything; he named the band, chose the members and even got the group their initial gigs. Jones' envy resulted in a serious drug problem. On 2nd July 1969, the musician was found in a static position at the bottom of his swimming pool by girlfriend Anna Wohlin. A coroner's report of the incident confirmed that his heart and liver were hugely increased in size by both alcohol and drug abuse. Since the death of Brian, The Rolling Stones have had 'moderate' success as we all know - when your 'moves' get mentioned in a Maroon 5 song, you know you've done alright.
