Ranking Every Slipknot Album From Worst To Best
2. Iowa (2001)
Iowa is by far the darkest entry into the Slipknot discography, with an un-replicable malice running through its DNA. The band took the stylings of the self-titled album and turned the dark overtones into pure pitch black - to say this album is heavy is an understatement.
From the very start of the album when the distorted screaming samples within (515) resonate, it’s clear that the album features a real interpretation of pain and pure emotion. Not a single song on the album gives you time to catch breath, delivering head-banging riffs and relentless double bass which feels like rolling thunder.
Sandwiched into the 66 minute spectacle includes the remastered Gently, the all-around fan favourite My Plague and one of the bands most definitive songs in the ever brutal and misanthropic People=S**t.
While it will surprise many ‘Knot fans that Iowa only comes home with the silver medal, it is important to understand that this album is for the Slipknot purist, and realistically won’t be winning any new listeners to the band. Iowa is and always will be the holy grail for the OG fanbase, but with a more mature Slipknot emerging from the shadows in recent times, exclusively appeasing the core Maggot collective is not enough for such a larger-than-life band.
